The CYO BBQ Kickoff was a great success! With nearly 20 youth in attendance, we enjoyed some great BBQ provided and served by Council #9347 Knights of Columbus! Everyone enjoyed the BBQ and the fellowship which was followed by an intense game of cabbage ball in the field behind the Youth Building. Even though it was about 9000 degrees on the field we all survived and had a good time. The activities concluded with Mass at 6:00 with Fr. Genaro, the chaplain at the University of Holy Cross in New Orleans.

The KC'S sponsored its quarterly blood drive this past Sunday, (Aug. 11th.) 20 pts of blood were donated to Oschner's Blood Bank. We were assisted by 2 Boy Scouts: 1....CHRISTIAN VANANA AND 2...JEFFREY ESCHMANN.

Our outdoor statue of Mother Mary has had a beautifully engraved bench added where one can sit and pray, reflect or contemplate. We thank the generous parishioner who donated this bench to OLDP.

Owen Clakely and Emmi Guidroz received the Lois DeGruy Award for excellence in Catholic faith formation. Other awards were given for Perfect Attendance and Good Attendance.

This group meets the third Thursday of the month at 2:00 p.m. in the St. Lawrence Room in the Cuccia Center. New guests and members are always welcome.

The guidelines for Catholics on fasting and abstinence are as follows: Fasting is to be observed on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday by all Catholics who are 18 years of age but not yet 59. Those who are bound to fast may take only one full meal. Two smaller meals are permitted if necessary to maintain strength according to each one’s needs, but eating solid foods between meals is not permitted. Abstinence from meat is to be observed by all Catholics 14 years or older on Ash Wednesday, Good Friday and on all Fridays of Lent.

Kenneth Emile Margavio, Sr., age 75 passed away peacefully with his loving family by his side on January 16, 2019. May he rest in peace.

On December 16, 2017, the Knights of Columbus sponsored their Quarterly Communion Mass.The Mass was celebrated by Fr. Alex Guzman. When he was a seminarian, Fr. Guzman was sponsored by the KC'S, and received a monthly endowment from Council #9347, Our Lady Of Divine Providence.
